Dinesh Kumar Khara is a veteran banker and former Chairman of the State Bank of India, a role he held from October 2020 to August 2024. An alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics and the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, he joined SBI as a probationary officer in 1984 and went on to lead some of its most critical business verticals, including Global Banking & Subsidiaries and SBI Mutual Fund. During his tenure as Chairman, he steered the bank through unprecedented growth, making SBI one of India’s most profitable enterprises. He oversaw transformative initiatives, including the successful merger of SBI with its associate banks and Bharatiya Mahila Bank, as well as a sweeping digital transformation that propelled the YONO platform into one of the world’s leading digital banking channels.
